Me and 80+ blog buddies got together to bring you 80+ DIY Halloween costumes, including my DIY No-Sew Dragon. I’m teaming up with Jamie Dorobek and her handmade Halloween costume site, Really Awesome Costumes. We’re sharing tons of easy ideas to craft up DIY Halloween costumes for everyone including your pets, family costumes, and even a trunk or treat idea!
How to Train Your Dragon
Last Halloween, my son requested a dragon costume. I think several of his friends were going as knights and he wanted to be the scary dragon! I searched for easy ideas and ultimately deciding to go the no sew route using my trusty glue gun! As I was searching for inspiration, I decided that Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon was one of the cuter, fun looking dragons out there. I based the eyes and everything off of his. At the time, I had no idea they would be releasing a How to Train Your Dragon 2!
Supplies You Need
Quickly gather these simple supplies:
- Colored felt
- An over sized black hooded sweatshirt
- A glue gun
- A piece of lightweight cardboard or an empty cereal box
- Black stretchy gloves
What to Do
I found a black, zip up sweatshirt for 50 Cents at a thrift store. I cut 2 large wings out of the felt and glued them to the back of the sweatshirt. Cut 2 eyes out of white felt and 2 black dots for the center of the eyes. Cut spikes and glue them from the top of the hood, down the back. Cut a tail and glue it to the bottom of the sweatshirt. Cut a brim for the hood out of cardboard and cover it in felt. Glue this to the inside of the hood. Glue teeth to the inside of the brim. Cut talons out of felt and glue them to the ends of each finger on the gloves. That’s it!
This dragon costume has now held up for an entire year of dress up play! I just pulled it out of a pile of costumes in the basement and still looks pretty good!
