Whipped Coffee
Whipped coffee, AKA “Dalgona” coffee has quickly taken over the internet, and it’s easy to see why. While everyone is staying home, many people have turned to the internet for new ways to create their favorite coffee drinks! Those of you that are used to going out for coffee or stopping at a drive-thru, might want to give this a try. This trend originally started in South Korea, where it was called “Dalgona coffee” after a Korean toffee candy by the same name. It is easy to make and uses only 3 ingredients!
Jump to RecipeWhat Does it Taste Like?
We had seen so many pictures and videos of this coffee drink pop up online, we just had to try it. Does it really taste as good as it looks? Well, this is slightly debatable. The frothy topping looks like it should taste as sweet as caramel, but it’s not quite what you’d expect. We found it to have a very strong coffee flavor, but it wasn’t quite sweet enough, or was it too sweet? We experimented by mixing it in with the milk, adding flavored syrup and increasing the sugar to coffee ratio. It’s such a fun process and makes a really pretty looking drink, so I think it’s worth perfecting! Play around with it until you achieve the desired level of sweetness and strength.

As much as I’ve fought the ideas of TikTok, I finally caved. This whipped coffee is just too good not to share.

How to Make it
All you need are three ingredients: Instant coffee, sugar and water. Mix equal parts coffee, sugar and water in a bowl and whisk until you create thick, fluffy peaks. Whisking by hand might be tiring and take up to 10 minutes. We put our mixture in our Kitchenaid mixer and ran it for about 2 minutes. It transformed like magic in a matter of seconds!
We put ice cubes in a glass and poured cold milk on top. We spooned our coffee mixture on top and stirred it in. We added flavored syrup for extra sweetness.

Made it a few times already. It’s fantastic as an espresso-enhanced dessert if you prefer sweet, smooth things, but there isn’t much subtlety in the espresso flavor if you’re used to drinking outstanding espresso on your own.
There are nicer espressos that could make it better, but in my opinion, they kind of defeat the purpose of considering how much milk and sugar you really want in it.

Made it a couple of times now. It’s great as an espresso enhanced dessert assuming that you like sweet smooth stuff, yet not much subtlety as far as espresso flavor assuming that you’re accustomed to drinking great espresso without help from anyone else.
There’s a fancier moment espresso that could improve it, however to me, it somewhat nullifies the point of thinking about how much milk and sugar you really want for it.

Made it a few times now. It’s nice as a coffee flavored dessert if you like sweet milky stuff, but not much nuance in terms of coffee flavor if you’re used to drinking good coffee by itself.
There’s fancier instant coffee that might make it better, but to me it kinda defeats the purpose considering how much milk and sugar you need for it.

How much did you make when you used the Kitchen Aid? I did one TBSP and the whisk just wasn’t getting enough of the mixture to whisk it.

Hi! I did increase how much I made so there was enough for everyone. I think I just doubled this recipe – or you could use equal parts of any measurement. For example: 1/4 cup instead of TBSP for each ingredient.
