We received media passes to this showing of the Lion King so we could share the details with you! All opinions are my own.
The Lion King Comes to Detroit
Disney on Broadway presents The Lion King, now showing in Detroit! Performances begin on January 27, 2022 and play through February 20, 2022 at the Detroit Opera House. The Lion King is one of the most popular Broadway productions of all time. We have seen a lot of Broadway shows over the years, but had never seen the Lion King! While I am in Florida with the kids, I sent Jay in my place to see The Lion King with my nephew, Judah. It was a cold night in Detroit, but they had an amazing time!

Location Details
The Lion King is showing at the Detroit Opera House in downtown Detroit, Michigan. While there is a connecting parking structure to the Opera House, this can be quite busy on performance nights. If you would rather bypass the crowds, there are lots of other parking options in the downtown area. Jay and Judah parked at the Z Parking Garage which is a short walk to the Opera House. They paid $10 to park and passed lots of great restaurant options along the way.
The Opera house is a beautiful building. Be sure to arrive early so you can walk around and take it all in. There are concessions available and merchandise to purchase, but lines can be long, so give yourself extra time.
What Age is it For
Disney on Broadway performances are recommended for a general audience. As an advisory to adults who might bring young people, Disney recommends its productions for ages 6 and up. Children under the age of 2 will not be admitted to The Lion King tour performances. Children ages 2-11 will not need to show proof of negative Covid test or vaccine to attend The Lion King at the Detroit Opera House. All persons entering the theater, regardless of age, must have a ticket and will be required to wear a mask at all times except when actively eating or drinking.
A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
While Jay was on duty in Detroit, I took the kids to see Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida. This small-scale version of the show features live vocal performances, dancing, animatronic characters and acrobatics. We always love catching this show and it was fun to see it, knowing Jay was watching the Broadway version in Michigan! You can see Festival of the Lion King daily at the Animal Kingdom.
We then hopped over to EPCOT to catch a Disney on Broadway performance by the cast of Newsies! During the International Festival of the Arts at Epcot, you can catch Disney on Broadway performances nightly by various Broadway performers.
