A special welcome to you today if you are stopping in after visiting My Sweet Savannah!
Our Summer Home on Wheels
Welcome to my Summer home tour! I’ll be sharing some of my favorite areas in our newly renovated RV, plus a couple of our Summer hangout spots at home.
I’ve heard 2020 has been called the “Summer of the RV” and it’s pretty easy to guess why. After 3 full months on lock-down, we have been so thankful for a home on wheels that can safely transport us out of the house and into the great unknown. As soon as things started opening up, we were excited to social distance in our RV. It’s the perfect way to travel with kids!
Our RV Kitchen Renovation
The first thing I started on in this RV reno was the kitchen area. I was so excited to finally get a big apron front sink and butcher block counters! There is a ton of work that still needs to be done, so don’t look too closely or you’ll probably spot some of the things that need attention. We bought the sink from IKEA, and the butcher block from Home Depot. The paint color is “Scarborough” by Glidden and the tile is TicTac Tile. Slide the arrow on the picture below to see the before and after.
The Living Area
When we decided to switch up the layout of this RV, we wanted lots of seating for our family of 7, space to hang-out, eat, and sleep. We found 2 armless sectional sofas that fit together to fill the entire slideout. These each have a pull-out bed and seat belts for traveling. I found this neat folding table in lieu of the traditional dinette table.
The Master Bedroom
We considered tearing out this master bedroom area to create a bunk room for all the kids, but I really like the idea of having an actual mattress and my own space. One of the most important keys to surviving a camping experience is having somewhere to hide! I used these bamboo blinds that I have used in other spaces and I love them. I created a little bit of interest on this wall using a black paint pen for the “shiplap” and a white pen for the palm leaf faux wallpaper.
Our Back Porch
One of our favorite spots at home is the back porch. This Summer, I strung a few extra strands of lights, hung some sheer IKEA curtains and switched out the rug. I also hung these old windows and brought in some greenery. It’s crazy what a difference just hanging the curtains made!
Our Summer Living Room
We may live in the “Freshcoast” state, but we travel quite frequently to the ocean and have always wanted to incorporate a surfboard somewhere in our home decor! We brought this surfboard home with us on our last trip to South Carolina. I love how fresh and Summery it makes this room feel, but I may just leave it up all year!
Our family did a lot of singing and playing music during quarantine. This was our most used room of the house for hanging out, singing, and family movie nights.
Thank you for joining me today!

Hi! I found your blog through Tatertots and jello blog! I’ve had more fun browsing at your blog! BEAUTIFUL! I have a question…that beautiful blue chair in your family room (the chair that the guitar is leaning against)…it looks like an IKEA chair I have in my family room. Did you paint the fabric or is it recovered? It’s so pretty and I think I need to change the color of mine now! thanks!
Sarah Lemp
Hi Colleen!! Thank you so much for visiting my blog, and for the kind words! Yes, that chair is from IKEA, but unfortunately I think that they have discontinued this color. I didn’t change it at all I just purchased it that way. I would suggest checking Facebook Marketplace maybe to see if you could snag a used one somewhere?
