Maui Mondays: Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees
We had our Road to Hana CD in the car telling us things we should keep our eyes out for based on the mile markers. She talked about The Rainbow Forest. Of course we had no idea what she was talking about. All of the sudden, we rounded a corner and saw these beautiful trees on the left hand side of the road just across from a cow pasture. They were spectacular. Pictures cannot do them justice, but we will try. I felt like I just stepped into Alice and Wonderland’s World, and I had no interest in leaving! The bark was incredible. Annually the outer bark layer sheds to reveal the green layer, but over the course of the year under the sun’s influence it changes colors from blue to purple to orange or maroon. We asked the locals what the wood was used for, but it’s so hard that it really is not desirable. Sit back and take a tour of these amazing trees. -Julia

So where do I go to buy one of these CD’s? Not even sure now if my Maui Rental car has a CD player. I will be going to the road to Hana tomorrow looking for these trees. I am in Maui for a few days and am heading out on the road to Hana tomorrow in search of the Rainbow Trees. So far I have determined there are some just before mile marker 7 but with no real place to park and they are on private property behind a fence. I could also go on a tour or go to Wailea Blue golf course. Just trying to show you I am doing some research on my own. I very much like your photographs and your photos of the Rainbow Eucalyptus trees.
Can you offer any additional assistance on finding these trees?? Any help would certainly be much appreciated.

Hey Harold! I believe you can pick up one of those CD’s at any store or gas station on the way to Hana. What you’re describing sounds exactly where we saw the trees. We pulled off the road to the right in front of a fenced in field. The trees were on the left and I think we hopped a fence to see them!! :)
