Are you still looking for a quick and easy last-minute gift idea? I have the perfect gift idea for you. This last minute felt scarf is completely no sew and it’s a great way to make a personalized gift for a loved one.
It is the fourth Monday of the month and so that means I get to hang out with you today. I am Bree, and I blog about DIY gifts and handmade decor, over at bumblebreeblog.
I won’t lie to you my friends, as I know you have heard me say it before – I do not sew. The only reason I buy fabric is to cut it into strips and tie it to garlands. This project was so easy and makes the perfect gift. I originally purchased some fleece remnants at the craft store, thinking that I could use them to make a small blanket. When I opened them up I realized they were the perfect shape and size to create scarves. Believe me, if I can do it, so can you!
Materials
- fleece (in whatever size scarf you want)
- wool roving
- felting needle
- foam board
- shaped cookie cutter
Step 1
I started by taking my foam board for needle felting and placed my fleece upon it. I would suggest ironing the fleece so that it will lay flat. Take the cookie cutter and place it on the fleece where you want your detailing.
Step 2
Take a bunch of wool roving and place it into the cookie cutter until it fills the space completely.
Step 3
Start by poking the felting needle through the wool roving and into the fleece, starting at the edges and working towards the center.
Step 4
Once you feel that shape is fairly set you can remove the cookie cutter and continue to felt the wool roving into the fleece.
Step 5
Once you feel that the wool roving is fully attached to the fleece turn the scarf over and poke the needle through the back to help the detail fully attach.
That is it! You have now created a fun, last minute felt scarf that is a perfect gift for family or friends. Think of all the fun color combinations and deigns you could create. The best part? There was no sewing involved. Win!
I created another scarf inspired by the Pantone color of the year, Marsala! I paired it with a gorgeous pale blue wool roving. I love the shocking contrast of the two colors.
