When we decided on the red, white and blue theme, I figured I’d incorporate the use of wood shims – which has been on my Pinterest to-do list for a while now! I bought a pack of the 8 Inch Pine Shims and the 15 Inch Cedar Shims
from the Home Depot. So many come in a package,
I thought I’d try several different designs.

The design above was using the long shims with the short ones on the back for support. Below is the shorter shims. My goal was to make something without having to cut the shims at all. The picture below was kind of an experimental idea! I think it turned out OK :)

The traditional red, white and blue colors would really not fit well in my home, so I wanted to create something that was more of a pastel version.

Here’s the back view of 2 different ones. I used hot glue to hold the pieces in place and then painted the fronts. I’d love to hear what you come up with!
